Speech and Language Therapy for individuals with Autism

Abi has a range of experience of working with individuals with Autism using a range of therapeutic approaches for different levels of need.

Autism is a lifelong condition which impacts an individual’s functional communication and interaction skills.

Speech and language therapy support can develop an individual’s functional communication and interaction skills helping them build strategies and skills to reduce some of the symptoms and impact of their Autism.

Abi is highly practiced in delivering therapeutic interventions to support;

Abi is experienced in delivering therapy to children and adults with Autism using approaches such as;

  • LEGO therapy

  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) i.e PECs
  • Narrative therapy

Abi is also able to provide a consultation service to schools and other organisations to develop the communication environment and make it inclusive to the needs of individuals with Autism.

1 to 1 Therapy Sessions

Face to Face Home, School or Nursery visits can be provided only with a recent comprehensive speech and language therapy assessment

  • 60 minutes 1 to 1 home or school visit
  • 7 day follow-up support per session
  • Carryover therapy activity plan

1 to 1 Assessments

Assessments are carried out within the home, school or support environments accessed by an individual (i.e day services, respite care).

1 to 1 Private Therapy

Individual therapy sessions can be delivered following a recent comprehensive assessment either by our service or following a recent (within the last 6-12 months, depending on the individuals age and needs), assessment by another qualified Speech and Language therapist.

Support Network Training

We can provided bespoke training packages for an individual and their support networks at home, within schools or support services, to ensure people understand the individuals communication and interaction needs and how best to support them.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems

An Augmentative and Alternative Communication system is a means of communication which either supports or provides and alternative means of communication, to spoken communication. These systems are often referred to as high tech or low tech communication systems.
